z.systems, a Morocco-based B2B commerce infrastructure provider, has raised $1.65M in seed funding led by Azur Innovation Management. The platform connects brands, wholesalers, and retailers in Morocco's fragmented traditional supply chain. This round brings total funding to $2.7M after a prior $1.05M pre-seed.

Government Targets Hanout Modernization

The raise aligns with Morocco's Commerce 2030 strategy. z.systems signed an October 2025 agreement with the government to digitize 50,000 hanouts, or small neighborhood shops according to Trendtype. This public-private push addresses inefficiencies in a market long resistant to digital tools.

$40B Market Suffers Supply Gaps

Morocco's traditional retail sector spans a $40B undigitized market, per Wamda. Over 120,000 hanouts grapple with pricing discrepancies, inventory shortages, and credit access issues per Daba Finance. Current manual processes leave retailers underserved by modern B2B infrastructure.

Platform Links 16K Retailers

z.systems offers a B2B2C tech stack as a franchise model for hanouts, streamlining orders and payments. Post-pre-seed, it activated 15,000 outlets in Casablanca alone, generating over 800,000 orders. Today, the platform supports 16,000 active retailers across 600+ brands via Trendtype.

Local Funds Lead Retail Bet

Azur Innovation Management, a Moroccan seed fund backing healthtech and agtech, led the round. Follow-on investors include MNF Ventures, with a track record in logistics via Logidoo's acquisition, and Witamax, focused on logistics plays like Colis.ma. New participant Harambeans Prosperity Fund adds pan-African validation, mirroring its investment in similar B2B retailer Chari.

Informal Retail Draws VC Focus

Moroccan VCs signal conviction in digitizing offline trade. MNF's 30+ investments and bank backing underscore sector momentum. Harambeans' entry marks z.systems as scalable beyond Morocco, targeting Africa's fragmented retail ecosystems.

Commerce 2030 Fuels Expansion

The government's modernization initiative creates tailwinds for platforms like z.systems. With EBRD Star Venture and AWS support noted in coverage, the startup positions to capture share in the 120,000-hanout landscape.

Nationwide Rollout Follows Gov Deal

Next steps center on fulfilling the 50,000-outlet agreement while scaling to all 120,000 hanouts. Current traction in 16,000 retailers sets the stage for broader supply chain integration and order volume growth.
