Sandbar Raises $23M Series A

Ssandbar, a New York-based developer of self-augmentation interfaces, has raised $23M in Series A funding led by Adjacent and Kindred Ventures. The company builds Stream, a private voice wearable ring paired with a conversational notes app for voice input on notes, ideas, queries, actions, and media control. The capital will accelerate development ahead of Stream's summer 2026 launch.

Smart Rings Surge 49% in 2025

The round arrives as smart ring shipments grew 49% in 2025, outpacing smartwatches according to Bloomberg. Oura holds 80% market share with over $900M raised, while Meta acquired Limitless after $34M in funding. Sandbar targets cognitive augmentation over health tracking with its discreet ring form factor.

Voice Capture Friction Limits Ideas

Professionals and creators lose ideas to phone friction during movement or crowds. Current solutions like always-listening devices raise privacy concerns, with lawsuits targeting Meta's smart glasses for footage review. Fitness rings like Ultrahuman's $55M-funded device focus on biometrics, not private thought capture.

Ring Enables Private Whisper Input

Stream Ring uses hold-to-speak activation with a whisper-capable mic and haptics for confirmation, paired with an app for AI-powered notes and Inner Voice personalization. Unlike Plaud's clip-on NotePin, which sold 1M units for meetings, Sandbar emphasizes solo ideation in loud environments passing the 'Bar Test'. This hardware-software co-design supports 50x daily use in early testing.

As CEO Mina Fahmi noted:

"The response [to the launch] was a lot warmer than we expected… A lot of people said they could see themselves wearing this."

Investors Back Agentic Interfaces

Adjacent, known for Runway and Speechify, and Kindred Ventures, with Perplexity AI and PlayAI (acquired by Meta), signal conviction in AI consumer hardware. Their focus on voice and creator tools matches Sandbar's conversational interface for an 'agentic world'. Total funding reaches $36M including a $10M seed.

Wearables Shift to Productivity

Smart rings market stands at $378.4M in 2026, projected to reach $3.1B by 2035 at 26.4% CAGR per Global Market Insights. CES 2026 showcased productivity rings, with Plaud launching NotePin S amid 49% category growth. Sandbar positions for cognitive tools beyond Oura's health dominance.

Ex-Meta Founders Drive Neural Expertise

Cofounders Mina Fahmi (ex-Meta PM on Neural Band/Orion) and Kirak Hong (ex-Meta technical lead) built at CTRL-labs, acquired by Meta in 2019. Hardware VP Sam Bowen shipped Peloton Bike+ and Fitbit devices, while marketing VP Brooke Travis comes from Equinox. This team shipped products generating over $20M revenue previously.

Summer Ship Targets Expansion

Batch 1 preorders sold out, with Batch 2 open at $249-$299 including AI trial. Inner Voice beta launches spring 2026, enabling personalized responses. Funds support software/ML hires and U.S. scaling post-summer 2026 shipments.
