RapidPulse Raises $48M Series B for Cyclic Aspiration Stroke System

RapidPulse raised $48M Series B led by Medtronic for its cyclic aspiration system that improves first-pass stroke reperfusion rates. The round funds the TURBO pivotal study.

RapidPulse, a Miami, FL-based developer of the RapidPulse® Aspiration System for acute ischemic stroke, has raised $48 million in Series B funding led by Medtronic alongside TechWald Next S.p.A. and S3 Ventures. The system applies precise, high-frequency pulsed aspiration through a proprietary algorithm to fully evacuate clots from neurovasculature, achieving first-pass effect rates of 60-69% versus 28-42% with standard aspiration in feasibility studies. The capital will complete the TURBO pivotal study and support pursuit of FDA approval.

Medtronic Leads Strategic Bet on Pulsed Aspiration

The timing aligns with expanded AHA/ASA stroke guidelines and recent competitor raises. Imperative Care raised a $100 million convertible note in March 2026, while Route 92 Medical secured $50 million in growth financing in April 2026. RapidPulse's cyclic approach addresses gaps in first-pass success where continuous or modulated aspiration systems fall short.

Stroke Treatment Demands Higher First-Pass Success

Acute ischemic stroke affects roughly 795,000 patients annually in the United States. Current aspiration devices deliver complete reperfusion on the first pass in only 28-42% of large vessel occlusion cases. Lower first-pass rates increase procedure time, distal embolization risk, and long-term disability.

Cyclic Pulsing Differentiates from Continuous Aspiration

RapidPulse's platform cycles vacuum on and off at high frequency to create a gripping effect that draws entire clots into the catheter. This differs from Penumbra's modulated Lightning systems and larger-bore approaches like Perfuze's Millipede88. Feasibility data across three studies showed consistent 60-69% first-pass near-complete reperfusion with the 071 catheter.

"This financing enables us to complete the TURBO study, expand clinical experience across leading stroke centers, and data permitting, seek FDA approval for the RapidPulse system." — Sean McBrayer, CEO

Oversubscribed Round Signals Strategic Validation

Medtronic's co-lead role brings potential distribution pathways and commercial credibility for a company with only nine employees. Existing backers Santé Ventures and Syntheon participated alongside new investors. The round was described as oversubscribed with substantial interest from financial and strategic parties.

Neurothrombectomy Market Expands with Guideline Changes

The neurothrombectomy devices market stood at approximately $788-830 million in 2025 and is projected to reach $1.37-1.43 billion by 2033, reflecting a 6.4-7.2% CAGR. Rapid Medical raised $50 million in Series D financing in 2021, and Perfuze has raised roughly $53.4 million. Boston Scientific's $14.5 billion acquisition of Penumbra further validates the space.

RapidPulse's differentiated mechanism and pivotal trial underway position it to capture share as aspiration-first strategies gain favor among interventional neuroradiologists.
