Prosper Medical, a Fairfield, NJ-based AI-powered concierge primary care platform, has raised $16M in seed funding. The membership model pairs patients with dedicated physicians from top-50 U.S. medical schools and a 24/7 AI assistant for $69 per month, working alongside major insurance plans across all 50 states.

Founders Return With Stronger Playbook

The round comes as founders Ryan McQuaid and Dr. James Wantuck revisit primary care after selling their prior company, PlushCare, for $450M. Their experience highlighted gaps in continuity of care beyond initial visits. Prosper addresses those gaps by combining human physicians with an AI layer that maintains full patient context, flags issues early, and coordinates follow-up.

AI Layer Targets Continuity Failures

Traditional primary care often leaves patients without ongoing relationships or coordinated follow-through after visits. Prosper's model uses AI to track biomarker trends, prep physician visits with full history, and handle routine queries while physicians focus on complex decisions. This differs from transactional telehealth platforms that connect patients to available doctors on demand rather than building long-term relationships.

As co-founder Dr. James Wantuck noted:

"We're not looking to use AI to make healthcare cheap and quick, or eliminate physicians and other healthcare workers from the workflow. It's really more about making it better because I think all of us have suffered from horrible experiences with the healthcare system."

FUSE Leads With Operator Focus

FUSE led the round with participation from Aurum Partners, Better.vc, Cal Innovation Fund, Fluent, Latitude Capital, Knoll Ventures and Western Technology Investment. Lead investor Brendan Wales highlighted the founders' choice to tackle continuity rather than chase easier problems after their exit. The capital will expand the physician network, deepen the AI platform, and accelerate growth.

Concierge Market Expands Beyond Luxury

US concierge medicine is projected to grow from $6.99B in 2026 to $12.75B by 2035. Virtual primary care platforms show even steeper expansion, moving from $6.4B to $112.5B over the same period. Recent consolidation, including Amazon's $3.9B acquisition of One Medical and CVS's purchase of Oak Street Health, has validated primary care as a strategic asset.

Competitors include General Medicine, which raised $32M in May 2025 for its AI-powered marketplace model, and Maven Clinic, which has raised over $425M targeting women's and family health through employer contracts. Forward Health, which raised $658M before shutting down in 2024, demonstrated the risks of cash-only models without insurance integration.

Serial Founders Signal Execution Edge

McQuaid and Wantuck bring direct experience scaling virtual care to over a million annual visits at PlushCare. Their new venture emphasizes insurance in-network status and nationwide availability from day one, avoiding the geographic and reimbursement barriers that limited earlier models. The approach targets patients frustrated with fragmented care while remaining accessible at a fraction of traditional concierge pricing.
