Nomad, a Canada-based AI-powered fuel management platform for North American trucking fleets, has raised $2M in an oversubscribed seed round led by Kickstart Fund. The platform combines a no-fee fuel card with real-time dashboards, AI fraud detection, predictive analytics, and transparent rack discounts across 850+ partner locations including EFS. Nomad delivers average savings of $650 per truck per month while supporting 10K+ drivers and processing 100M+ transactions with 99.9% accuracy. The capital will accelerate expansion from fuel management into a full AI freight tech platform.

Diesel Surge Drives AI Adoption

The funding arrives as U.S. diesel prices spike to $5.38 per gallon, the highest in years, alongside 14% fuel surcharges in Canada per Maersk. 53.3% of fleets are now researching or piloting AI for efficiency amid rising costs. Nomad targets small and mid-sized fleets underserved by legacy providers like WEX and Corpay, offering cross-border US/Canada coverage and agentic AI that acts on anomalies.

Fuel Volatility Erodes Fleet Margins

Fuel represents trucking's second-largest cost, amplified by volatility, fraud, and manual processes. Legacy tools rely on quarterly reports, leaving fleets vulnerable to opaque pricing and cash flow gaps. Nomad's AI has already prevented millions in fraud losses, addressing pain points like diesel spikes that keep the industry in a slump.

Agentic AI Enables Real-Time Savings

Nomad's platform goes beyond traditional fuel cards from AtoB or Coast with interactive fuel maps, automated workflows, and predictive insights tailored for long-haul, final-mile, and owner-operators. Drivers access controls via mobile in 30 seconds, even under pressure.

As cofounder Usman Ali shared:

"The gap between “showing data” and “taking action” is where fleets lose margin."

This approach yields immediate ROI, with 1M gallons processed monthly via partners like WEX and TA Petro.

Seed VCs Signal Freight Tech Bet

Kickstart Fund and Peterson Ventures, both with Lucid IPO exits, anchor the round alongside Range Ventures and strategics like CarMax Ventures. Their focus on seed SaaS validates Nomad's scalable model just one year post-founding. Oversubscription at 2x target underscores conviction in AI-driven fleet optimization.

Fuel Market Grows to $3B by 2035

The fuel management market measures $687M in 2026, expanding to over $3B by 2035 at 10-12% CAGR as fleets digitize amid regulatory shifts. North America commercial fuel cards exceed $200B in transaction volume. Nomad rides trends in real-time analytics and fraud prevention, positioning ahead of enterprise telematics like Samsara.

AI Fleet OS Looms on Horizon
