Nature Robots Raises €4M Seed for Ag Autonomy

Nature Robots raised €4M ($4.6M) seed led by Climentum Capital, Bayern Kapital for modular Autonomy OS enabling GPS-free ag robotics in regenerative farming.

Nature Robots, an Osnabrück-based developer of modular AI robotics software, has raised €4M in seed funding led by Climentum Capital, Bayern Kapital, and Planetary Impact Ventures. The Autonomy OS enables full autonomy for ag machines in GPS-denied regenerative environments like orchards and vineyards. The capital will expand the team in Osnabrück and open a new Munich office.

Ag Robotics Funding Heats Up

The round closes amid rising investments in farm robotics, with Carbon Robotics raising $70M in October 2024 and Agtonomy securing $18M Series B in 2025. Ecorobotix has raised over $150M in recent rounds. Nature Robots differentiates with GNSS-independent software for complex terrains, unlike hardware-centric rivals targeting row crops.

Agriculture Faces Triple Threat

Traditional farming contributes over 30% of global emissions per CEO Sebastian Pütz, while 40% of soil is degraded and average farmer age hits 58. Systems must feed 10 billion by 2050 amid labor shortages. Current GPS-reliant solutions fail in orchards and agroforestry, blocking regenerative shifts.

3D Mesh Enables GPS-Free Nav

Autonomy OS uses 3D Mesh Navigation and Plant Instance Segmentation for 1-3cm accuracy in dense canopies. Modules like OrchVine Nav and Horti Nav support spot farming, cutting chemicals 90% and CO2e 25% per company impact data. This design-in platform lets OEMs integrate autonomy in weeks, not years.

As Dr. Sebastian Pütz, CEO and Co-Founder, noted:

"Agriculture faces a ‘triple threat’: We must feed nearly 10 billion people by 2050, while the average age of farmers is already 58. At the same time, traditional agricultural systems account for over 30% of global emissions, and 40% of our soil is already degraded. Our autonomy platform enables machinery manufacturers to embark on the necessary transformation very quickly without having to invest billions in in-house development. With this seed round, we can systematically tap into the core markets."

European Impact VCs Signal Conviction

Climentum Capital focuses on climate tech, Bayern Kapital backs Bavarian deep-tech, and Planetary Impact Ventures targets sustainability. This mix validates Nature Robots as a DFKI spin-off with €6.5M prior EIC blended finance. Investors see software enabling regen ag profitability matching monocultures.

Robotics Market Grows to $56B

The ag robotics market stands at $17.73B in 2025, projected to reach $56.26B by 2030 at 26% CAGR per MarketsandMarkets. Labor shortages and EU Green Deal drive demand for autonomy in unstructured environments. Nature Robots targets OEMs in Europe's Agrotech Valley alongside Claas and Amazone.

DFKI Experts Drive Regen Innovation

CEO Sebastian Pütz brings PhD robotics from Osnabrück and Oxford Robotics visiting research. CSO Sven Lake offers 12 years at GRIMME in ag machinery development. CTO Malte Kleine Piening and COO Gerrit Woeckner add DFKI AI experience. This team has logged 500+ autonomous machine hours with 4 customers.
