Mindgard, a Boston and London-based AI security platform providing automated red teaming, discovery, and runtime protection, has raised $30M in Series A funding led by Album VC with participation from Karma Ventures and existing backers including .406 Ventures, Atlantic Bridge, IQ Capital, and Lakestar. The platform maps AI attack surfaces, detects shadow AI, probes for vulnerabilities such as jailbreaking and prompt injection, and enforces runtime controls. The capital will scale product, engineering, sales, and marketing teams across financial services, healthcare, gaming, and semiconductor sectors.
AI Red Teaming Demand Accelerates
The timing aligns with regulatory and market pressures. Protect AI secured a $60M Series B in August 2024 and was acquired by Palo Alto Networks for over $500M in April 2025. Lakera raised a $20M Series A in July 2024. HiddenLayer closed over $50M in Series A funding. Mindgard's attacker-aligned approach addresses gaps in shadow AI discovery and continuous reconnaissance that competitors emphasize less.
Shadow AI Creates Enterprise Blind Spots
Mindgard's survey of 500 cybersecurity professionals found that 56% of organizations use AI without formal IT approval. This creates massive blind spots for security teams. The company has publicly disclosed over 150 high-impact vulnerabilities across systems including ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Google Antigravity, and Cursor IDE.
Attacker Behavioral Intelligence Drives Defense
Mindgard operates as an autonomous red teamer through four phases: Discover, Recon, Attack, and Defend. It generates AI-BOMs, profiles agents, and performs continuous attack simulation without requiring specialist AI expertise. This differs from runtime guardrail-focused tools like Lakera or supply-chain platforms like Protect AI.
"AI is creating an entirely new attack surface and organizations need a fundamentally different approach to securing it," said Mindgard CEO James Brear.
"We don't just automate attacks. We operationalize expertise, turning the knowledge of leading AI security researchers and offensive security practitioners into the capabilities every enterprise needs to secure their AI."
Album VC Leads Growth Capital Round
New lead investor Album VC joined with Karma Ventures, while all prior investors participated again. The round brings total funding to nearly $42M. The investor profile signals conviction in offensive security methods for AI systems, aligning with Mindgard's research pedigree from Lancaster University.
Regulatory Pressure Fuels AI Security Spending
The AI Red Teaming Services Market stands at $2.26B in 2026 and is projected to reach $6.17B by 2030. The agentic AI security market is at $2.43B in 2026 growing to $9.63B by 2031. The EU AI Act mandates red teaming with fines up to €35M, while 50%+ of large enterprises face mandatory AI compliance audits by 2026.
Research Pedigree and Disclosure Volume Signal Strength
Spun out after a decade of research at Lancaster University, Mindgard maintains the world's largest AI security lab. The team of roughly 25 has delivered over 100 public AI vulnerability disclosures and holds SOC 2 Type 2 certification. Dual headquarters in Boston and London support transatlantic enterprise sales.
