LemonEdge Raises $21M Series A for Fund Accounting Platform

LemonEdge raised $21M Series A led by Blackstone Innovations Investments joined by BNY for its low-code fund accounting platform. The round signals strategic validation in private markets infrastructure.

LemonEdge, a UK-based fund accounting and portfolio management platform for private markets, has raised $21M in Series A funding led by Blackstone Innovations Investments, joined by BNY. The platform automates complex fund structures, waterfall distributions, and investor reporting with a proprietary Path Allocation Engine and low-code tools. The capital will support US and Europe expansion.

Blackstone Validates Private Markets Tech

The timing comes amid rising private markets complexity and a shift from legacy systems. Allvue Systems raised $247M backed by Vista Equity Partners. Juniper Square secured over $350M with a $1.1B valuation in its Series D in June 2025. LemonEdge's low-code, cloud-native approach addresses the gap left by rigid incumbents built on older tech stacks.

Legacy Systems Struggle With Complexity

Private markets firms manage increasingly complex fund structures, multi-jurisdiction entities, and real-time LP reporting demands. Current solutions force reliance on offline Excel processes and manual workarounds, creating bottlenecks in scalability and audit readiness. LemonEdge processes $2.5T+ under client management and 60+ million general ledger transactions, highlighting the scale of operations now demanding automation.

Low-Code Engine Targets Accounting Workflows

LemonEdge built a cloud-native platform with an event-driven accounting engine, embedded waterfalls, and Canvas Technology for scenario modeling. Unlike competitors such as eFront or Dynamo Software, which layer accounting onto broader CRM or portfolio tools, LemonEdge centers on deep financial logic with 10x faster customization via low-code. This enables GPs and fund admins to automate allocations across parallel vehicles without extensive professional services.

"Private markets firms are dealing with more complexity, more volume and more operational pressure than ever before. But too much of the infrastructure supporting fund accounting and operations was built for a different era."

Strategic Investors Signal Ecosystem Fit

Blackstone Innovations Investments led the round, marking its second investment in LemonEdge after a $4M round in 2022. BNY joined as a new strategic investor. Sidekick Partners continued its support from the Seed round. The lineup reflects conviction in private markets infrastructure, with Blackstone's portfolio already including adjacent tools like 73 Strings and Canoe Intelligence.

Fund Accounting Market Expands Rapidly

The fund accounting software market is projected to grow from $4.8B in 2025 to $10.6B by 2034 at a 9.2% CAGR. Alternative investment software is expanding at 12.6% CAGR. Structural drivers include record private markets AUM, LP demands for transparency, and migration from on-premise legacy platforms to API-first cloud solutions. LemonEdge's three consecutive wins for Best Accounting and Reporting Solution at PE Wire US Awards underscore its positioning amid this shift.

CEO Transition Supports Scaling Phase

David T. O'Malley was appointed CEO alongside the funding. The leadership change follows exponential team growth to 80+ employees and client wins including PACT Capital and Seneschal. The platform now supports firms from $5B to $100B+ AUM across six continents.
