Health Lean Analytics Raises €2.1M Seed for Hospital AI

Health Lean Analytics, a Barcelona-based AI platform for automating hospital data collection, has raised over €2.1 million ($2.4M) in seed funding led by Novanta. The platform uses passive sensors and AI to capture real-time operational data, integrating with legacy ERP systems for surgical workflow optimization. Funds will support US market entry, R&D expansion, and hiring AI engineers.

Novanta Partnership Signals US Ambitions

The round includes an oversubscribed €1.4M seed from family offices Inderhabs, Namarel Ventures, and Braincats, plus an ENISA loan, building on a prior €750k seed. Novanta, a medtech firm with $960M revenue, joins as strategic partner and board member. This move positions Health Lean Analytics amid EU health data initiatives like EHDS. Competitors like LeanTaaS ($250M raised) focus on US capacity management, while Health Lean Analytics emphasizes touchless data capture for European legacy systems.

Surgical Waitlists Strain Spanish Hospitals

Spain faces 848,000 patients awaiting non-urgent surgery, averaging 121 days delays. Manual data entry causes errors, burdens staff amid shortages, and hinders real-time decisions in operating rooms. Current systems rely on assumptions rather than live data, leading to inefficient resource allocation in surgical blocks.

Passive Data Capture Powers Decisions

Health Lean Analytics deploys IoT for automated, human-free data collection on patients, materials, and processes. AI detects patterns, predicts needs, and delivers visual dashboards accessible anywhere. Unlike competitors' manual inputs, this unifies siloed hospital data for proactive surgical governance.

As Mauro Batesteza, co-founder and co-CEO, noted:

"The incorporation of Novanta as an advanced technology partner validates our technological and strategic strength and marks the beginning of a new phase of international growth."

Analytics Market Hits $45B Milestone

The healthcare analytics market stands at $44.83B in 2024, projected to reach $166.65B by 2030 at 24.6% CAGR per MarketsandMarkets. Trends favor AI operations tools integrating legacy systems amid post-pandemic strains. EU tailwinds include Horizon Europe's €14B for health AI in 2026-27.

LeanTaaS leads US OR optimization with $250M, Qventus $200M+ for patient flow, and Plenful $76M in admin automation. Health Lean Analytics carves a niche in automated surgical data for EU hospitals expanding stateside.

Ex-Kaiser Team Drives Credibility

Co-founders bring deep domain expertise: Mauro Batesteza led €300M hospital projects in Chile; Josep Lazaro optimized logistics across US, Brazil, Panama; Pedro Romero Aceituno analyzed cardiac surgery at Kaiser Permanente. This complements AI scaling via Jj Estrada's VC background from Kingo. Their track record fits building reliable hospital analytics.

John Lesica, Co-COO of Novanta, noted:

"HLA has built a compelling AI and data analytics platform that will transform the way we think about the operating room."

US Expansion Follows Clinic Wins

Deployments at Clínica Planas and Clínica Rementería demonstrate live traction. Recent MWC 4YFN pitch win validates the platform. Next steps include US R&D via Novanta, AI hiring, and scaling surgical implementations.
