Greyparrot, a London-based provider of AI waste analytics, has raised $27 million in Series B funding led by technology investor Omar Mir. The company deploys camera systems above conveyor belts in materials recovery facilities to identify every object's material, product category, and brand in real time across 111 categories. The capital will support expansion in the United States and hiring across AI, data science, and product teams.
EPR Deadlines Accelerate Waste Data Demand
The timing aligns with regulatory shifts. Extended Producer Responsibility laws in multiple US states and the UK now require brands to report detailed recyclability data, with compliance deadlines in 2026-2027. AMP Robotics raised $314 million total including a $91 million Series D in December 2024, while Recycleye secured $23.4 million before its acquisition. Greyparrot's software-only approach addresses the gap between facility operations and brand packaging decisions.
Manual Audits Miss 99 Percent of Material
Traditional sampling covers less than 1 percent of waste flowing through recovery facilities, leaving operators and regulators with incomplete pictures of material composition. This gap costs facilities millions in lost recoverable value and exposes brands to compliance risks under new EPR rules. Greyparrot's systems deliver continuous coverage instead.
AI Cameras Deliver Continuous Coverage
Greyparrot Analyzer mounts cameras above existing conveyor belts without facility redesigns. The platform recognizes 111 material categories and feeds real-time dashboards plus automated compliance reports. Facilities report 10-30 percent efficiency gains, with one site saving over $2 million in a year.
Deepnest Connects Brands to Recovery Data
The Deepnest platform gives packaging producers and brands direct visibility into how their designs perform in actual recovery systems. Unilever, L'Oréal, Kenvue, and Amcor use the data for design decisions and EPR compliance. This two-sided model turns the same underlying detections into value for both waste operators and consumer goods companies.
Strategic Investor Signals Infrastructure Bet
Omar Mir, who built $18 billion in international revenue at World Wide Technology and serves as Co-Chair of G42 Europe & UK, led the round personally. His background in AI infrastructure and government technology aligns with Greyparrot's positioning as critical data infrastructure for the circular economy. Existing backers including Speedinvest, 360 Capital, and Closed Loop Partners participated.
AI Waste Market Scales Toward $216 Billion
The AI in waste management market stands at $52.4 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach $216.4 billion by 2033. AMP Robotics has raised $314 million total, Recycleye closed $23.4 million before acquisition, and Safi raised $19.5 million in 2023. Regulatory mandates and corporate circularity commitments are driving capital into companies that can deliver auditable, continuous waste composition data.
Data Moat and Regulatory Validation
Greyparrot has now analyzed over 1 trillion waste objects, creating the largest labeled waste image dataset in the industry. UK operators Biffa and FCC Environment have submitted its AI-derived data to the Environment Agency for statutory compliance, a regulatory first.
Leadership with Prior Scale
Co-founder Ambarish Mitra previously founded Blippar, an augmented reality company valued at over $1 billion. CEO Mikela Druckman and the team have scaled deployments to 65-plus facilities across 20-plus countries.
US Expansion and Team Growth Ahead
With the new funding, Greyparrot plans to expand its Analyzer network in North America and grow its AI, data science, and product teams. The company is also scaling Deepnest adoption among brands facing EPR deadlines.
