Dopl Technologies, a Seattle-based developer of telerobotic ultrasound systems, has raised $6.3M in seed funding led by SpringTide Ventures. The company pairs off-the-shelf ultrasound probes with commercial robots and haptic feedback to let remote sonographers perform scans from hundreds of miles away. The capital will advance its Traverse platform through FDA 510(k) clearance and initial commercial deployment.
Telerobotic Ultrasound Funding Signals Sector Momentum
The round arrives as investors back multiple robotic imaging and telesurgery platforms. Sovato Health closed a $26M Series B in November 2025, while Mendaera secured $73M in its Series B the prior year. Dopl's hardware-agnostic approach focuses specifically on diagnostic ultrasound rather than surgical robotics or handheld probes.
Sonographer Shortages Leave Rural Hospitals Underserved
Rural facilities face chronic imaging access gaps, with 60M+ Americans living in health professional shortage areas. Dopl's interim CareBridge service has already delivered more than 2,000 exams and cut patient wait times by over 90% at partner sites including Whidbey Health and Coulee Medical Center. Current solutions rely on traveling sonographers or force patients to travel long distances.
Platform Enables Remote Probe Control with Haptics
Dopl's Traverse system combines robotics, AI, and low-latency 5G connectivity to let sonographers manipulate probes from afar while receiving haptic feedback. This differs from software-only telesonography or point-of-care handheld devices. The company also operates SonoFlex for workforce scheduling and CareBridge for in-person coverage as a bridge to full telerobotic deployment.

SpringTide Ventures led the oversubscribed seed round, joined by more than a dozen investors including Washington Research Foundation Capital, Tacoma Venture Fund, HeartX, and Precursor Ventures. The investor mix combines mission-focused capital with sector expertise in medtech and rural health. Proceeds target regulatory clearance expected in 2027.

Co-founders Ryan James (former NVIDIA medical AI), Steve Seslar, and Wayne Monsky bring combined expertise in robotics, cardiology, and radiology from their University of Washington research origins in 2017.
