CurrentClient Raises $1.25M Seed for Compliant Advisor Comms

CurrentClient raised $1.25M seed led by Thicket Ventures for compliant texting/calling platform for financial advisors. Tackles $2.7B regulatory fines with AI summaries and 20+ CRM integrations.

Emel Kavaloglu

CurrentClient, a Provo-based compliant communication platform for financial advisors, has raised $1.25M in seed funding led by Thicket Ventures. The platform offers texting and calling with CRM integrations, automatic archiving, and mobile/desktop apps to avoid regulatory fines. The capital will expand operations, accelerate product development, and support new sales leadership.

WealthTech Surges Amid SEC Enforcement

The raise aligns with a WealthTech market projected to grow from $18.32B in 2024 to $71.59B by 2030 at 25.5% CAGR. Regulatory pressures intensify, with SEC fines exceeding $390M for off-channel communications. Smarsh, a compliance archiving giant with $1.42B in funding, serves enterprises but lacks advisor-focused mobile apps. CurrentClient targets RIAs needing seamless, compliant client outreach.

Fines Top $2.7B Since 2021

Financial firms face over $2.7B in regulatory fines since 2021 for unarchived texts and calls, including a $6.5M penalty to a standalone RIA in 2024. Advisors increasingly use personal devices for client texts, risking SEC and FINRA violations. Existing tools often tie advisors to desktop archiving or limited CRM syncs. This gap exposes RIAs to compliance failures amid rising digital client expectations.

Unified Phone App Replaces Fragmented Tools

CurrentClient delivers a native mobile app for compliant SMS, voice calls with AI summaries, and group messaging, syncing bidirectionally with 20+ CRMs like Wealthbox and Redtail. Unlike text-only platforms, it includes IVR and ring groups in higher tiers. AI automates call notes pushed to CRM, reducing manual entry. The platform earned SOC 2 Type II certification and serves 10+ firms including Csenge Advisory Group.

As Dustin Belliston, Founder, noted:

"We are thrilled that our company received the validation of such a well-respected investor as Thicket Ventures."

Native Calling Beats Archiving Add-Ons

Competitors like ArchiveIntel ($8.8M raised) focus on AI archiving for texts and WhatsApp but lack native sending or calling apps. MyRepChat, acquired by FMG Suite in 2023, emphasizes marketing templates without voice features. CurrentClient's all-in-one approach preserves household permissions and delivers archive receipts, minimizing fines.

Thicket Validates Advisor Infrastructure

Thicket Ventures led the round, adding partner Justin Wisz to the board. The firm targets seed-stage fintech with financial services applications, backing exits like Vestorly (acquired by FMG) and early Robinhood. Their portfolio includes WealthFeed ($2M seed, 2024) for advisor analytics. This investment signals conviction in compliant comms as foundational RIA infrastructure.

As Justin Wisz noted:

"Thicket Ventures invests in companies that will be critical to the foundational architecture of financial services."

WealthTech Hits $145T RIA Milestone

RIA assets under management reached $145T in 2024, up 12% YoY, fueling tech adoption. CurrentClient won Best in Show at XYPN AdviceTech 2024, outperforming finalists like Quivr. Bi-weekly releases, including AI call summaries and GReminders integration, demonstrate rapid iteration.

Engineering Pedigree Scales Compliance Tech

CTO Jeff Hutchins, ex-Principal Engineer at Vivint (acquired for $2.8B by NRG in 2023), brings scalable systems expertise from Adobe. Founder Dustin Belliston developed fintech software at Capital One. COO Andrew Clark, ex-co-founder of Elidea, advised finance clients at 1Strategy. This team supports 20+ compliance integrations amid accelerating product launches.

Sales Expansion Follows Seed Raise

Funds enable hiring in sales and client success, with Austin Guest joining as Head of Sales from FINNY. Recent bi-weekly updates signal plans for AI enhancements and deeper CRM syncs. Trusted by firms like Wealthcare for Women, CurrentClient eyes broader RIA adoption.
