Critical Loop, a U.S.-based provider of modular, relocatable microgrids for rapid power deployment, has raised $26M in Series A funding led by Conifer Infrastructure Partners and Hanover. The company integrates grid, storage, generators, and other sources using its Cygnus UL 3141-certified controllers and Combiner hardware to deliver megawatts in weeks, bypassing years-long grid interconnection delays. The capital will accelerate deployments for industrial customers facing power constraints.

Grid Constraints Drive Microgrid Funding

The round arrives amid surging electricity demand from AI data centers and EVs overwhelming U.S. grids. Interconnection queues stretch years, limiting industrial growth per company statements. Competitors like Caban Systems ($50M+ raised) focus on telecom BESS, while NineDot Energy ($1B+) targets urban fixed installs. Critical Loop differentiates with relocatable systems for data centers, airports, and factories.

Interconnection Queues Stall Industrial Growth

Grid upgrades take years due to regulatory bottlenecks and supply chains, delaying expansions for manufacturers and EV operators. Data centers and aerospace testing face power shortages that halt operations. Current solutions require custom engineering and long waits, exposing sites to outages and high costs.

Cygnus Controller Enables Fast Deployment

Critical Loop's Cygnus controller autonomously orchestrates power sources without custom engineering, earning first-to-market UL 3141 certification for safety and flexibility. Relocatable MW-scale batteries and predictive ML software optimize in real-time, integrating behind-the-meter. This stack has deployed 50 MWh already, with 70 MWh scaling in 2026 across 67+ nodes.

As CEO Balachandar Ramamurthy noted:

"In just a couple of years, we've built a software and hardware stack that has the potential to accelerate time to power from years to days."

Infra Investors Back Grid Relief Play

Conifer Infrastructure Partners and Hanover bring sector expertise in energy infrastructure, signaling conviction in flexible microgrids. Total funding reaches $49M including equity and debt. Their backing validates Critical Loop's model amid regulatory shifts like CPUC's flexible tariffs citing the company.

C&I Storage Market Hits $16B

The commercial and industrial energy storage market stood at $16.61B in 2024, projected to reach $42.83B by 2032 at 13% CAGR. Battery costs fall while AI loads surge, driving modular BESS adoption. Base Power Company raised $1.3B for residential backup, contrasting Critical Loop's C&I focus.

Ex-SpaceX Team Masters Power Reliability

CEO Balachandar Ramamurthy, ex-SpaceX Director of Flight Safety, co-founded prior energy startup Positron Dynamics with NASA funding. CTO Lydia Maher, ex-Palantir Deployment Strategist and Forbes 30 Under 30, leads software. COO Andrew Grinalds brings space tech biz dev from Privateer Space. This team translates aerospace reliability to industrial microgrids.

Scaling Deployments with Blue-Chip Wins

Critical Loop plans 100+ MWh deployments in 2026, building on San Diego Airport and LG Energy Solution Vertech partnerships. Active hiring for operations and supply chain supports national expansion. Recent aerospace case added 2 MWh in one day, boosting capacity 100%.
