Cortea, a Berlin-based provider of AI-powered Audit Quality Agents, has raised €12 million in seed funding led by Dawn Capital, with participation from Cherry Ventures and Mosaic Ventures. The agents review audit reports, cross-check figures against source documents, and run compliance checks aligned to ISA 315, IFRS, and local standards while keeping all outputs traceable for auditor review. The capital will fund additional agents, platform integrations, and expansion in the UK, Germany, and US.
Audit Reform Drives Quality Focus
The timing aligns with intensifying regulatory pressure on audit firms. UK audit reform and global scrutiny are pushing firms to improve quality amid capacity constraints. Cortea's white-box approach, which guarantees no hallucinations and no client data training, targets a gap competitors have not addressed.
Manual Review Bottlenecks Persist
Audit teams still spend hours per engagement on final review stages. Cortea's agents reviewed more than 4,000 reports in one season and flagged issues requiring attention in 100 percent of them. Average review time dropped from eight hours to one hour, with over 95 percent improvement in quality and process adherence reported by users.
White-Box Agents Grounded in Standards
Cortea builds purpose-built agents for risk analysis, disclosure checks, evidence testing, and consistency validation. Every output remains auditor-reviewed rather than autonomous. This differs from broader platforms like Vanta, which raised $500M Series D for compliance automation, or Drata, which secured $325M Series C. MindBridge AI has raised $82.2M for transaction anomaly detection, while Denki raised $4.1M seed.

Dawn Capital Backs Regulated AI
Dawn Capital led the round, joined by Cherry Ventures and Mosaic Ventures. Angel investor Larry Bradley, former Global Head of Audit at KPMG, participated and serves as an advisor. The backing signals conviction that transparent AI can scale audit capacity without eroding professional judgment.
$1B Market Expanding Rapidly
The AI in audit market stood at $1 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach $11.7 billion by 2033. Global auditing services reached $243.9 billion in 2026. Structural drivers include auditor shortages, regulatory reform, and demand for traceable AI in professional services.
Ex-Auditor and Scaling Veteran Lead
Co-founders Valentin Neumann, previously CTO at audibene, and Philipp Hövelmann, an ex-KPMG auditor, combine operational scaling experience with domain expertise. Larry Bradley's active involvement adds rare Big Four credibility.
Expansion and Agent Roadmap Ahead
With deployments already live at Mazars, DHPG, ETL, and GVB, Cortea plans to release more agents, deepen integrations, and grow teams in the UK, Germany, and US.
