CometChat Raises $6.5M Strategic Growth for AI Agents

CometChat, a Denver-based full-stack communication platform, has raised $6.5M in strategic growth funding led by Run Ventures. The platform delivers in-app chat SDKs, voice and video calling, and AI agent infrastructure with UI kits, moderation, and analytics for developers. The capital will accelerate its AI agent platform, targeting proactive customer engagement in high-transaction verticals like e-commerce and healthcare.

AI Comms Arms Race Heats Up

The funding arrives as competitors intensify AI efforts: Sendbird launched Delight.ai concierge and Voice AI Agent in 2024-2025, while PubNub achieved SOC 3 compliance in February 2026. CometChat's full-stack approach, including no-code AI agents built on proven chat infrastructure, positions it to capture share in the shift from reactive messaging to intelligent orchestration. This round from existing backer Run Ventures signals conviction in CometChat's pivot amid these developments.

Reactive Chat Fails Modern Engagement

Businesses building apps in e-commerce, healthcare, and gaming face demands for real-time, multi-channel interactions, with over 2 billion messages processed via CometChat in the past year alone. Current solutions often require glue code for scaling chat with voice, video, and AI, leading to dev overhead. CometChat powers 113K+ apps connecting 126M+ users across 163+ countries, handling 7M+ daily messages.

Full-Stack Agents Skip the Plumbing

CometChat integrates chat, calls, and AI agents with built-in UI kits, on-premise options, and guardrails like prompt injection protection. Unlike infrastructure-focused rivals like PubNub, it emphasizes production-ready UIs and moderation for enterprises. Recent launches include Frontend Actions for agent workflows and Agno partnership for AI conversations.

As CEO Anuj Garg noted:

“The current fund raise is specifically done to accelerate our AI play… target high-transaction verticals.”

Run Ventures Doubles Down on Scale

Run Ventures, which led this strategic growth round from its $290M fund launched in September 2025, has backed CometChat previously, bringing total funding to $21.1M. The firm's portfolio in AI/SaaS like Quiq and Authenticx aligns with CometChat's expansion. This follow-on reflects strategic validation for a platform with $6.2M revenue in 2024, up 63% YoY from $3.8M.

Run Ventures GP Brandon Tidwell added:

“We have witnessed how methodically Anuj and Anant have scaled…”

CPaaS Market Eyes AI Expansion

The CPaaS market stands at $21B growing at 14% CAGR, driven by AI-powered omnichannel communication. Real-time messaging SDKs hit $1.82B in 2024, projected to reach $4.5B by 2033. Competitors like Sendbird ($218M raised) and Stream ($58M) focus on similar stacks, but CometChat differentiates with affordable, full-stack AI for verticals including Deloitte and Yuga Labs customers.

Founders Spun Chat Expertise

Co-founders Anuj Garg (CEO) and Anant Garg (CTO) developed the original CometChat at Inscripts, spinning it out in 2019 after building chat products like Namaste. With 15-20+ years in comms software and Techstars Boulder alumni status, they have scaled to ~50K customers and 72 employees. Their domain fit drives the AI pivot on proven infrastructure.

Pilots Scale to Enterprise

Funds target AI development from pilots to production, GTM expansion, and enterprise sales in wellness, fintech, and hospitality. With on-premise deployments and 99.999% uptime, CometChat eyes deeper penetration in high-volume apps.
