Cheiron, a Los Altos, California-based company building an AI-native operating system for drug development, has raised $8M in seed funding led by Menlo Ventures. The platform uses a Life Sciences Knowledge Graph to connect biomedical, clinical, regulatory, and patent data into traceable, decision-ready outputs for biopharma teams. The capital will accelerate development of the knowledge graph and expand engineering, product, and life sciences teams.
AI Pharma Market Surges at 43% CAGR
The timing comes amid rapid growth in AI tools for life sciences. Convoke raised $8.6M in seed funding in August 2025, while Causaly secured $93M in Series B funding in July 2023. Cheiron's approach — building a living model of the full drug program that tracks commitments, evidence, and dependencies — addresses the gap between scattered documents and integrated program management.
Drug Development Costs Hit $2.6B Per Approval
Biopharma teams face steep challenges. Each approved drug now costs $2.6B to develop, a 145% increase adjusting for inflation. Development timelines span 10-15 years, while PubMed adds over one million papers annually. Data remains fragmented across clinical, regulatory, and scientific silos, and regulators increasingly demand traceable evidence chains that current tools struggle to deliver.
Knowledge Graph Unifies Drug Program Workflows
Cheiron built a proprietary Life Sciences Knowledge Graph that integrates PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, FDA filings, patents, and treatment guidelines. AI agents then synthesize this data into citation-linked answers for use cases including target product profile development, regulatory precedent analysis, and mechanism-of-action testing. Unlike literature-focused competitors, the platform maintains a shared view of protocols, submissions, CMC changes, and regulatory commitments across the entire program lifecycle.
As CEO Minseok Bae noted:
"The most important object in drug development has never truly existed in software: The drug program itself."
Menlo Ventures Leads with Strategic Backers
Menlo Ventures led the round, with partner Venky Ganesan joining the board. Strategic investors include Moderna co-founder Robert Langer, former Pfizer CMO Freda Lewis-Hall, Chai Discovery CEO Josh Meier, former Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan, and former Apple AI chief John Giannandrea. This investor profile signals strong conviction that an operating system layer for drug programs represents foundational infrastructure.
AI in Pharma Projected to Reach $154B by 2034
The AI in pharma and biotech market stands at $8.54B in 2026 and is projected to reach $154.10B by 2034 at a 43.55% CAGR. Venture funding for AI-ML drug discovery reached $11B across 348 rounds in 2025. Structural drivers include rising development costs, compressed timelines, and regulatory expectations for AI-enabled evidence standards. Cheiron has already secured deployments with seven of Korea's top ten biopharma companies and users across more than 200 organizations.
Product Ships Weekly with Enterprise Focus
Since its December 2024 launch, the company expanded from seven to 26 expert agents, added full PubMed PDF reasoning, role-based access controls, and integrations with FDA Orange Book and USPTO patents. The platform supports both English and Korean and emphasizes verifiability, with all outputs grounded in sourced evidence.
