CAIS, a New York City-based alternative investment platform for independent financial advisors, has raised $170 million in Series D funding led by Vista Equity Partners. The platform connects advisors with private equity, hedge funds, structured notes, and ETFs through a full-lifecycle operating system. The capital will support continued technology development and AI integrations.

Strategic Investors Validate Alts Infrastructure

The timing comes amid rapid scaling in alternatives distribution: iCapital raised $820 million in July 2025, while Opto Investments secured $145 million earlier. CAIS differentiates through its advisor-centric focus and recent Anthropic Claude integration for real-time investment intelligence.

Operational Friction Limits Advisor Adoption

Independent advisors managing trillions in assets face steep operational hurdles when accessing alternatives. The platform serves 65,000 advisors overseeing $8.5 trillion in end-client assets across 2,500 wealth management firms, yet current solutions require extensive manual workflows for subscriptions, reporting, and compliance. Mercer conducts independent due diligence on all listed funds, highlighting persistent complexity.

Full-Lifecycle Platform With AI Layer

CAIS built CAIS Marketplace for turnkey access and CAIS Solutions for enterprise customization, covering pre-trade through post-trade processes. Its CAISey agent and MCP server integration with Anthropic's Claude embed intelligence directly into advisor workflows, reducing context-switching. Competitors like iCapital emphasize broader institutional scale, while CAIS prioritizes independent RIAs with lower fees and education tools such as CAIS IQ.

"By embedding AI and agentic capabilities into the advisor workflow, CAIS is creating a more intelligent, connected, and scalable experience," said David Breach, President of Vista Equity Partners.

Vista-Led Round Signals Platform Maturity

Vista Equity Partners led the round with participation from AllianceBernstein, Blue Owl Capital, Carlyle, Fortress, Golub Capital, Lord Abbett, and RBC. These investors represent over $2.5 trillion in combined AUM and many already list products on the platform, creating dual roles as capital providers and distribution partners. David Breach joined the board, bringing enterprise software scaling expertise.

Alts Platform Market Expands Rapidly

The Alternative Investment Funds Market reached $15.01 trillion in 2026 and is projected to grow at 9.4% CAGR through 2030. The Alternative Investment Platform Market is expanding from $1.26 billion to $4.80 billion at 16% CAGR through 2034. Structural drivers include wealth transfer to independent advisors and demand for private markets exposure beyond traditional 60/40 portfolios.

Education and Integration Drive Momentum

CAIS has released 150 technology features in the first half of 2026, launched CAIS Models Marketplace, and integrated with RedBlack OMS and Inspira Financial. Its 37% three-year organic revenue CAGR and $2 billion-plus valuation reflect accelerating adoption among RIAs seeking scalable alternatives access.
