Asteromorph, a Seoul-based company building scientific superintelligence, has raised $31.4 million in seed funding led by BonAngels Venture Partners. The company develops Spacer, a multi-agent system for scientific reasoning that generates novel hypotheses in biology and chemistry. Spacer 1.0 scored 33.9% on the FrontierScience-Research benchmark, second only to GPT-5.4 Pro.

Korean VCs Back AI Science Push

The round follows a prior $3.45 million raise and stands among the largest seed financings in South Korea. BonAngels led with participation from FuturePlay, Mirae Asset Venture Investment, IMM Investment, and others. Upstage AI previously raised $285 million while Rebellions.ai secured $861 million, showing sustained Korean investor interest in AI infrastructure and models.

Frontier Models Struggle With Original Research

Traditional frontier models rely on static training data and internet retrieval. Asteromorph targets the gap in autonomous hypothesis generation and causal chain construction across scientific domains. The company's approach uses deliberate decontextualization to derive concepts absent from existing knowledge bases.

Multi-Agent System Outperforms Base Models

Spacer builds task-specific agents that reason through intermediate outputs and iteratively reshape workflows. On FrontierScience-Research, the system tripled the score of its base GLM-5.1 model. This architecture positions Asteromorph against general-purpose LLMs rather than hardware-focused competitors like FuriosaAI, which raised over $200 million.

"Can creative scientific breakthroughs be systematically reproduced—or even better, be automated?"

Deep Tech Syndicate Validates Thesis

BonAngels, Korea's pioneering early-stage VC since 2007, led the round alongside Mirae Asset entities with prior investments in generative AI unicorn Upstage. The syndicate's focus on AI and deep tech signals conviction in autonomous scientific platforms over broader enterprise applications.

Life Sciences AI Market Expands Rapidly

The AI in life sciences market stands at $4.51 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach $13.64 billion by 2031 at a 24.78% CAGR. Asteromorph differentiates through broad scientific superintelligence rather than drug-discovery specialization seen in Insilico Medicine and Isomorphic Labs. The timing aligns with rising Asian investment in AI-native R&D platforms.

Technical Milestones Drive Momentum

The company published its arXiv report on Spacer in August 2025 and released benchmark results in May 2026. With 15 employees and roots in Seoul National University research, Asteromorph maintains a low-frequency, high-signal approach focused on technical validation.
