Antaris Raises $28M Series A for AI Space Platform

Antaris, a space software company, has raised $28 million in Series A funding led by WestWave Capital with participation from Lockheed Martin Ventures. The Antaris Intelligence™ platform uses AI and Full Mission Virtualization™ to automate satellite design, simulation, manufacturing, and operations. The capital will expand the platform for government and commercial satellite missions.

Satellite Simulator Funding Accelerates

The round closes amid a space tech funding surge, as K2 Space raised $120M Series B in February 2026 for reusable satellite buses. Antaris targets government agencies like USSF, SDA, and MDA alongside commercial operators in ISR and Earth observation. Its cloud-native approach addresses rising demand for resilient missions in contested space. Partnerships with Infostellar and Innoflight enhance ground operations and cyber-secure avionics.

Hardware Delays Risk Mission Timelines

Traditional satellite development relies on lengthy hardware cycles, delaying deployment in contested environments. Operators face high lifetime costs and vendor lock-in with fragmented tools. Government programs like USSF's Hyperspace Challenge demand faster iteration for scalable constellations. Antaris' virtual-first model enables 'fly before you buy' testing with real hardware configs.

Full Mission Virtualization Reshapes Design

Antaris' platform includes Design Studio for mission customization, TrueTwin™ for digital twin simulations, Command Center for orchestration, and SatOS™ with open APIs. This software-defined stack supports any payload or bus, reducing vendor dependencies. Unlike point solutions, it virtualizes the full mission lifecycle from design to operations. Successful missions like JANUS-1 and JANUS-2 validate the approach.

As Thomas Barton, Founder & CEO, noted:

"This investment validates our vision for software-defined space missions."

Strategic Backing Signals DoD Validation

WestWave Capital led the round, with Lockheed Martin Ventures providing strategic validation for defense applications. The investors signal conviction in AI for multi-domain operations across space, air, and land. Participation from a prime contractor like Lockheed underscores Antaris' fit for DoD priorities such as the MDA's Golden Dome architecture. Funds target engineering and go-to-market expansion.

Simulator Market Grows Amid Constellations

The satellite simulator market stands at $840.6M in 2024, expanding at 12.9% CAGR through 2034 per Global Market Insights. High-throughput satellite demand projects a $76B market entering the terabit era. Incumbents like Ansys dominate trajectory analysis, while MathWorks handles control systems.

Antaris differentiates with integrated AI virtualization for constellations. Contracts with SDA, MDA, and SpaceWERX plus selection for USSF challenges highlight traction. Sovereign deals like the SARsatX MOA for a 16-satellite Saudi constellation expand internationally.

Planet Labs Veterans Drive Expertise

Founders Thomas Barton (ex-COO Planet Labs) and Govindhasamy Karthik (ex-CTO Planet Labs) bring experience scaling the world's largest Earth imaging fleet. Barton led prior exits including Rackable Systems to SGI, while Karthik co-founded satellite builder XDLINX. Their track record in satellite operations directly informs Antaris' platform. The team includes Planet and Diamanti alumni.

International Contracts Fuel Expansion

Post-funding, Antaris secured an MDA SHIELD IDIQ contract for AI training in missile defense. The SARsatX partnership localizes manufacturing in Saudi Arabia aligning with Vision 2030. Platform integrations like Infostellar ground services enable end-to-end workflows. Plans call for engineering hires and scaled go-to-market efforts targeting allies and commercial operators.
