Anodyne Nanotech, a Boston-based clinical-stage biotech company, has raised $12.6 million in Series A funding as part of a planned $17.3 million offering. The company developed the HeroPatch, a solid-state microneedle patch that delivers multi-milligram doses of biologics like GLP-1 receptor agonists through the skin without injections or cold storage.
GLP-1 Delivery Race Intensifies
The timing aligns with surging demand for patient-friendly alternatives to injectable GLP-1 drugs. Terrestrial Bio raised $50M Series C in March 2026, while Micron Biomedical has secured roughly $75.3 million total. Anodyne's solid-state approach targets larger payloads and tunable release profiles that address adherence gaps in the obesity market.
High Discontinuation Rates Plague Injectables
Roughly 30% of patients prescribed GLP-1 drugs stop within four weeks and 58% discontinue before 12 weeks, according to a Blue Cross study cited in the research. High costs from cold-chain logistics and needle phobia compound the problem for chronic metabolic conditions, where sarcopenia hospitalizations alone reach $19.1 billion annually in the US.
HeroPatch Enables Multi-Milligram Dosing
The HeroPatch uses solvent-free solid-state microneedles to deliver up to 30 mg per patch with over 50% bioavailability for GLP-1s in preclinical models. Unlike dissolvable microneedle competitors, it supports room-temperature stability and combination therapies such as ANN-103, which pairs GLP-1 with an APJ receptor agonist to counter lean muscle loss.
As CEO Jake Lombardo stated:
"We have demonstrated the ability to deliver multi-milligram weekly doses of a GLP-1 with a patch, and reach the exposures obesity treatment requires, without an injection or cold storage."
Velocity Partners Leads Strategic Round
Velocity Partners VC led the round with co-lead Evercurious VC and participation from Relativity Healthcare Partners. The capital advances ANN-101, a once-weekly GLP-1 patch, into Phase I trials planned for Q3 2026. Vikram Lamba, former Zosano Pharma CEO who led a $425 million Eli Lilly partnership, joined the board, adding partnering expertise.
Transdermal Market Expands Rapidly
The global transdermal drug delivery systems market stands at $87.5 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach between $136.7 billion and $239.4 billion by 2030-2035. The microneedle patches segment alone grows from $2.13 billion to $6.52 billion by 2033. Anodyne's pipeline also targets sarcopenia via ANN-102, positioning the platform beyond GLP-1 delivery.
Ex-Zosano CEO Brings Deal Experience
New board member Vikram Lamba previously served as CEO of Zosano Pharma and orchestrated a major $425 million partnership with Eli Lilly, providing strategic depth for future pharma collaborations.
Phase I Trial Set for Q3 2026
With the Series A proceeds, Anodyne will advance ANN-101 into Phase I clinical trials in Q3 2026 while expanding the platform for peptides, monoclonal antibodies, and nucleic acids.
